POETRY AND HARP RECITAL
EUGENIO DE ANDRADE AND HIS CONTEMPORARY
Paulo Pires, recitation
Emanuela Nicoli, harp

2023 marks the centenary of the birth of Eugénio de Andrade, one of the greatest contemporary Portuguese poets. Having published dozens of works, it was translated into several languages, enjoyed enormous national and international prestige and received several awards. Saramago dubbed the poetic work of Eugénio de Andrade as “poetry of the body that arrives through a continuous purification” of poems by Eugénio de Andrade and his contemporaries, accompanied by the light and ethereal musicality of the Harp.

ROBERT SCHUMANN - Children's Scenes
On the occasion of the 1st of June, the children's month

Schumann's “Children's Scenes” or “Kinderszenen” is a work consisting of thirteen miniatures. It is not at all a children's work, nor for young performers, but rather an adult reminiscence of episodes passed at an early age.
In addition to being a handbook of the history of music, these miniatures feature outstanding composition styles and techniques. The distinction of this work, which generated doctoral theses and served as inspiration for Debussy or Chick Corea, is linked to its high poetic and intimate sense. They are moving pictures of a memory resonated on the piano.
Robert Schumann's love and dedication to his wife Clara Wieck is documented in a long correspondence between them. These letters begin during adolescence, in a censored love on the part of Clara's father, Friedrich Wieck, which led to an extensive legal battle until Clara was 21 years old. One of those letters contained this sublime work, with the intention of Clara executing:

Robert: “I have found that nothing stimulates the imagination more than the expectation and desire of one thing or another; that has been the case these last few days, when I was just waiting for your letter and filling notebooks with compositions - strange things, crazy things, even friendly things - you'll really be surprised when you play them - I often feel like I'm going to explode from all the music in me - and before I forget what I composed - was like a musical response to what you once wrote to me, that sometimes I sounded like a child - in short, it was like I was wearing a dress with wide sleeves(… )”.
Clara: “They just belong to us, don't they? And they are always in my thoughts; they are so simple, warm, so similar to you; I can't wait until tomorrow when I can play them again.”
