PROGRAM SEP - DEC 2022

4 SEP | Sunday 4:00 pm
PIANO RECITAL
By pianist Raul Pinto
Chopin - Nocturnes

With Chopin, the Nocturnes projected a clear image of the expressive potential of this genre, until then little explored. Always based on an intimate connection between improvisation and composition, the author found in this form the ideal vehicle to convey maximum expression through piano performance.

Celebration of the 225th anniversary of the birth of Franz Schubert
Schubert's Improvisations (first notebook)

The work of Franz Schubert (1797-1828) is expressed in admirable music. Although it is a gift to all humanity, above all else, it served for a private confession and for a fruitful interpersonal relationship; much of the Austrian composer's musical production was written for a group of friends (poets, musicians, and enlightened amateurs), who regularly met in lively gatherings that became known, in a somewhat inaccurate name, as Schubertíadas.

Chopin - Waltzs

In the waltz, a genre originally characteristic of 19th century Viennese salons, Chopin began a primordial satire, progressing in development and language, transforming this dance into Parisian ballroom music, where poetry is served to us with unparalleled refinement.

Celebration of the 225th anniversary of the birth of Franz Schubert
Schubert's Improvisations (second notebook)

The work of Franz Schubert (1797-1828) has, in what was its first context, the aspect that reinforces this core humanity; much of the Austrian composer's musical production was written for a group of friends (poets, musicians, and enlightened amateurs), who regularly met in lively gatherings that became known, in a somewhat inaccurate name, as Schubertíadas.

Mozart - Sonata k331

One of the most interesting and well-known Mozart sonatas. I highlight the first movement consisting of theme and variations, with dexterity, a lot of skill and above all subtle audacity in the way of composing. Featuring a set of extraordinarily innovative piano resources for the time. Nourished by well-differentiated characters.
At the end, an “Alla Turca” resembling the sound of the military bands "Janízaras Turcas", with timpani, cymbals, triangles and bass drums.

PIANO RECITAL
By pianist Raul Pinto
On the 175th anniversary of the death of Felix Mendelssohn

LIEDER OHNE WORTE / SONGS WITHOUT WORDS / SONGS WITHOUT WORDS
The “songs without words” are short pieces, where we subtract the words from the songs and the affections remain. The absence of something named intensifies the imagination, as if reading a poem blindfolded.

“People often complain that music is too ambiguous, that what they should think when they hear it is unclear, while everyone understands the words. But for me it's the opposite. And not only in relation to an entire speech, but also in individual words. They also seem to me so ambiguous, vague, so misleading compared to real music, that fills the soul with a thousand better things.
than words. The thoughts that are expressed to me by the music I love are not too vague for me to put into words, but, on the contrary, they are well defined. “MENDELSSOHN, 1865.

PIANO RECITAL

Beethoven - Quasi-Fantasy Sonata Op. 27 nº2 (Moonlight Sonata)

Beethoven called it "quasi una fantasia". A fantasy of an (almost) deaf musician, where sentimental and dramatic private exposure confronts feelings of prostration with indignation.
The genesis of Romanticism and the end of the submission of the politicized taste of the patrons of the time. The encounter with the “I”, definitively replacing a more artisanal aesthetic concept, already embryonic in its antecedents.

PIANO RECITAL
By pianist Raul Pinto
Celebration of the 225th anniversary of the birth of Franz Schubert
Schubert - Sonata D960

Schubert's last work and one of the most brilliant works in the history of western music. Foreshadowing of an announced death, without scourge. A complex text to interpret, as we technically find many solutions of rupture and continuity and an ambiguous representation, where the subsequent to succumbing has an advent.

Piano Poetry

Chopin - Nocturnes
Liszt - Christmas tree, Liebestod
Mendelsohn - Lieder Ohne Worte / Song without Words
Debussy - Clair de lune
Schubert - Impromptus

Starting from an ambiguity, where the absence of something amplifies the bond. With heightened senses we saw music and listened to poetry. The omission clarifies the mystery and the missing words scrutinize the affections.
