PRESERVING OUR HERITAGE

The conservation and restoration work on the Regaleira Chapel is nearing completion. The intervention focussed on pétrous materials, floor mosaics and wooden furniture.
In the context of this intervention, it was detected that the chairs with genuflectors, carved from oak wood with a Neo-Manueline style, they were intervened on at a time in the past that cannot be identified, using diesel fuel for aesthetic and conservation purposes.
Since interventions of this nature are contrary to good conservation and restoration practices, it was done a complete reversion and its straw elements were also repaired.
So, on the 26th of September, the chairs of the Quinta da Regaleira Chapel returned to their original place, in their full splendour.

Conservation and restoration work on the Regaleira Chapel

On the 15 of April 2024, the interior of the Quinta da Regaleira Chapel will be subject to preservation work.
This intervention will take place during several weeks without the Chapel being closed to visitors.
